Phonics Level 3 curriculum following CA State Standards with focus on letter recognition, sound-letter correspondence, and early reading skills.

Advanced Phonics Patterns

Master diphthongs (oi/oy, ou/ow), triple-letter consonant blends (scr, spl, str), and silent letter combinations (kn, wr, gn).

Fluent Reading & Sight Words

Read simple sentences independently, begin choral and echo reading, use new vocabulary in context, and develop reading stamina. Complete mastery of Kindergarten high-frequency words with automatic recognition in reading and confident use in sentence writing.

Critical Thinking

Connect illustrations to text meaning, support claims with text evidence, retell stories with detail, and ask insightful questions.

Course Preview

A Holistic Approach To English Language Art

  • State Standard driven. This curriculum follows CA State Standards and all phonics and speaking and listening skills are derived from Kindergarten readiness assessments.
  • Lessons are made using research based techniques and strategies.
  • Students will become fluent in the first four sets of Dolch Sight words to support future reading fluency and build a receptive and expressive vocabulary.
  • Each session focuses on a particular skill or state standard and will be adjusted based on the student’s level of knowledge or needs.
  • Each lesson includes a dialogue skill that focuses on a pre-kindergarten or kindergarten speaking and listening goal such as, self awareness, imagination, problem solving, engagement, etc.
  • By attending the total of 15 sessions in each of the four levels, the students will gain a base knowledge that they can use to enter kindergarten and thrive as a productive classmate and student.

Class Main Focus:

  • This class is designed for students who have a good understanding of long vowel blends and simple consonant blends.
  • The focus of this class is diphthongs, triple letter consonant blends, silent letter blends, and kindergarten sight words.
  • Recommended for ages 4-6

Prior Knowledge:

  • Know most long vowel blends
  • Use the silent E and Two vowel rule
  • Read simple sentences

Speaking/Listening Skills:

  • Use sight words in sentences
  • Use new vocabulary in responses to questions
  • Answer simple questions about a text
  • Begin to choral/echo read stories

Reading Skills:

  • Describe how the illustration is connected to a text
  • Ask and answer questions about a text
  • Identify information to support their claims about a text
  • Retell stories with detail

  • All outlines are designed based on NY and CA state standards, and will be adjusted to meet the specific needs of each class
  • We believe in using holistic approach to teach phonics, so each session contains reading, phonics, communication, dialog, and basic writing skills
