Phonics Level 1 curriculum following CA State Standards with focus on letter recognition, sound-letter correspondence, and early reading skills.

Short Vowels & Sight Words Mastery

Build CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words, learn all five short vowel sounds, and practice blending sounds to read simple words. Recognize and use Pre-K high-frequency words in sentences to develop reading fluency and build confidence.

Reading Comprehension

Retell stories, answer questions about texts, participate in discussions, and connect illustrations to story meaning.

Speaking & Listening

Respond in complete sentences, describe people and settings, follow 10-15 minute lessons, and retain information effectively.

Course Preview

A Holistic Approach To English Language Art

  • State Standard driven. This curriculum follows CA State Standards and all phonics and speaking and listening skills are derived from Kindergarten readiness assessments.
  • Lessons are made using research based techniques and strategies.
  • Students will become fluent in the first four sets of Dolch Sight words to support future reading fluency and build a receptive and expressive vocabulary.
  • Each session focuses on a particular skill or state standard and will be adjusted based on the student’s level of knowledge or needs.
  • Each lesson includes a dialogue skill that focuses on a pre-kindergarten or kindergarten speaking and listening goal such as, self awareness, imagination, problem solving, engagement, etc.
  • By attending the total of 15 sessions in each of the four levels, the students will gain a base knowledge that they can use to enter kindergarten and thrive as a productive classmate and student.

Class Main Focus:

  • This class is designed for students who have a solid understanding of the alphabet and are ready to move on to short vowels and word building.
  • The focus of this class is short vowels and pre-k sight words.
  • Recommended for ages 4-5

Prior Knowledge:

  • All letters and sounds
  • Tell the difference between upper and lowercase
  • Segment words into their individual sounds

Speaking/Listening Skills:

  • Say all letter sounds
  • Respond to questions in complete sentences
  • Describe familiar setting or people
  • Listen to 10-15 min. lessons and retain information
  • Use sight words in sentences

Reading Skills:

  • Participate in a discussion about a text
  • Retell a Story or information from a text
  • Ask and answer questions about a story

  • Draw pictures to match text
