This class is designed for Pre-K students to reinforce their knowledge of the alphabet. The goal is to learn letter sounds, upper and lowercase, begin pre-k sight words, and segment words into individual sounds. **Prior Knowledge:** The alphabet (singing or spoken), recognize letters **Speaking/Listening Skills:** Follow simple instructions, listen to lessons for extended periods **Reading Skills:** Recognize print is read left to right, top to bottom; distinguish upper/lowercase; understand words have spaces; ask and answer questions about text

Level 1 (Ages 4-5)

Short Vowels & Word Building

This class is designed for students who have a solid understanding of the alphabet and are ready to move on to short vowels and word building. The focus is short vowels and pre-k sight words. **Prior Knowledge:** All letters and sounds, distinguish upper/lowercase, segment words into individual sounds **Speaking/Listening Skills:** Say all letter sounds, respond in complete sentences, describe familiar settings/people, listen to 10-15 min lessons, use sight words in sentences **Reading Skills:** Participate in discussions about text, retell stories, ask and answer questions, understand book structure (front/back cover, title page), draw pictures to match text

Level 2 (Ages 4-5)

Long Vowel Blends & Silent E

This class is designed for students who are confident in short vowels, can sound out CVC words, and know all pre-k sight words. The focus is long vowel blends with emphasis on the Silent E and Two Vowel Rules, plus Kindergarten Sight Words. **Prior Knowledge:** Know all five vowels and their sounds, build CVC words, match pictures to words, know most Pre-K sight words **Speaking/Listening Skills:** Respond to questions with on-subject responses, answer simple questions about text, describe drawings in response to text, use sight words in sentences **Reading Skills:** Identify story elements, distinguish fiction/nonfiction, identify author and illustrator, recognize feeling and sensory words, ask and answer questions about text

Diphthongs & Advanced Blends

This class is designed for students who have a good understanding of long vowel blends and simple consonant blends. The focus is diphthongs, triple letter consonant blends, silent letter blends, and kindergarten sight words. **Prior Knowledge:** Know most long vowel blends, use the silent E and Two vowel rule, read simple sentences **Speaking/Listening Skills:** Use sight words in sentences, use new vocabulary in responses, answer simple questions about text, begin to choral/echo read stories **Reading Skills:** Describe how illustrations connect to text, ask and answer questions about text, identify information to support claims about text, retell stories with detail
