Grade K

Grade K

Grade K mathematics curriculum covering CA State Standards including operations, algebraic thinking, geometry, measurement, and data analysis.

Numbers & Operations

Master counting to 100, comparing numbers, understanding addition/subtraction within 10, and composing/decomposing numbers to build number sense.

Shapes & Measurement

Identify and describe 2D/3D shapes, understand positional words, compare measurable attributes, and classify objects by characteristics.

Problem Solving

Apply mathematical thinking through word problems, pattern recognition, data analysis, and hands-on activities aligned with CA State Standards.

Course Preview

Counting And Cardinality

  • Know number names and the count sequence.
  • Count to tell the number of objects.
  • Compare numbers.

Operations And Algebraic Thinking

  • Understand addition as putting together and adding to, and understand subtraction as taking apart and taking from.

Number And Operations In Base Ten

  • Work with numbers 11–19 to gain foundations for place value.

Measurement And Data

  • Describe and compare measurable attributes.
  • Classify objects and count the number of objects in categories.

Geometry

  • Identify and describe shapes.
  • Analyze, compare, create, and compose shapes.

Foundational Mathematical Practices:

  1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
  2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively.
  3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.
  4. Model with mathematics.
  5. Use appropriate tools strategically.
  6. Attend to precision.
  7. Look for and make use of structure.
  8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning

Highlights Of Kmind Math Curriculum:

  • The curriculum is developed based on a spiral approach in which concepts will be introduced, revisited, elevated, expanded, and challenged throughout the entire curriculum.
  • Combining the methods of Singapore Math (focus on the concrete-pictorial-abstract method) and Beast Academy (an interactive program that challenges students to think about math concepts in a deeper way) to provide students a well-balanced learning opportunity.
  • Include math talk, math logic puzzles, growth-mindset, and real-life, scenario-based math activities for almost every session to bring the purpose and value of learning math to life.
  • Using the “I do, We do, You do” modeling teaching strategy to support and motivate students in the most age-appropriate way while still challenging them enough.
